Getting Back "On Track" Post-Holiday!
"I totally fell off track."
"I need to get back on track with my goals."
"I hate that I let myself get so far off track."
However you want to phrase it, you probably have said this to yourself at one point or another!
With December almost behind us, many of you are looking to get back "on track" post-holiday madness. And if that is you, let's talk about how you can get back "on track" as we kiss the holiday season goodbye!
I want to start with saying, we need to step away from the mentality that we are either "off track" or "on track." The mindset that it is one or the other fails many people attempting to have a health & fitness journey because their expectations become unrealistic & unattainable.
What if we just erase the idea that there is this perfect track?
What if we begin to build a mindset where we can be acknowledge that even the tiniest effort is still progress?
What if we just call this our lifestyle rather than a track?
So how can we live this lifestyle of health & fitness post-holidays?
Maybe you ate more cookies than you planned.
Maybe you had an extra serving of mac & cheese.
Maybe you did not get to workout like you planned.
Maybe the events just got the best of your time management.
Whatever the case, none of these things destroy or erase the efforts and progress you made leading up to the holidays!
I want to give you an example:
If someone gained 30lbs over the span of 3 years, are they going to lose that in a month? No.
If someone lost 20lbs over the span of a year, are they going to gain that back in a month? No.
The point is, you are not going to regress in your journey that you have worked for over the span of months and maybe years over one holiday season!
Your health & fitness journey is not defined by what you did for the holidays.
Your health & fitness journey is going to be defined by what you CONSISTENTLY do over the span of months & years!
If you are feeling:
Unmotivated
Discouraged
Sluggish
Puffy
Doubtful
All because you feel "off track" from the holidays, I want you to do these things:
Schedule your workouts ahead of time using your calendar or planner! Make these "non-negotiable" like you would a doctor's appt or work meeting. You may feel like you are DRAGGING yourself to the gym, but I promise, getting there is the first step to building momentum back up! The more you get yourself through the gym doors, the more you will WANT to be there again.
Write out a food menu for the week & then go grocery shopping! Think of what your favorite meals usually are! Think of ones that make you WANT to eat! Write out a menu for the week then hit up the grocery store! These homemade meals are going to make you FEEL good. With the post-holiday meals & treats, we want to fuel our body with nutrients and feel good meals that help our digestion and bloating.
Drink your water! Another powerful habit to help you target that bloating & help you feel like your best self. We underestimate the power of water but it truly is a simple and FREE habit you need to adopt into your lifestyle and schedule.
Set aside 10-15 minutes each day to do one self-care habit! For many, this will probably be 10-15 mins before bed. I personally enjoy reading, stretching, tidying up (yes cleaning is self care for me lol) or even taking a hot bath. Using these 10-15 mins will remind you that YOU deserve your time and how powerful these small habits can be for you, therefore, motivating us to do them more consistently.
The idea here is that we need to focus on building momentum again! As we build realistic & attainable momentum, we become powerhouses that feel good inside and out.
Let's start shifting this perfect track mindset towards a lifestyle than incorporates holiday meals, fun foods, alcohol and more flexibility!
