Healthy Lifestyles Are Cheaper Than You Think
There is a general idea that starting your fitness journey or working towards healthier eating gets expensive… but it doesn’t necessarily have to be. It’s true that groceries can be expensive and healthy options seem to be more experience - but you may be surprised. It actually can be cheaper than your current lifestyle!
First off, fast food and going out for meals and drinks adds up QUICK
Take a look at your bank statement for the past month and add up how much money you spent on fast food, meals out and drinks. If you spent more on these things than you spent on actual groceries at the store, you can actually SAVE money by eating healthier. The cost per meal in meals out vs meals in can make a huge difference. Would you rather be spending money on food that isn’t even good for you? Think about it!
Being smart with your grocery shopping and planning meals out for the week can make it more cost friendly
Rather than going to the grocery store and throwing everything that looks good into your cart and ending up with a $300 grocery bill, you can plan ahead. Look at what you already have in the freezer, fridge, and pantry. Create meals based on these things and pick up the rest of what you need at the store. One easy fault - not following through with what you plan to make or making a couple servings, but letting it go to waste. Be intentional about the meals you are making, especially with packing lunch for work!
Buy frozen & buy meat in bulk
Pro tip #1: buy meat in bulk at places like sam’s club or Costco or even just big packs when they are on sale at regular grocery stores and freeze in regular sized portions (example: freezing 2 chicken breasts at a time so you can just pull them out when needed)
Pro tip #2: frozen veggies are where it’s at!! If you’re someone who buy veggies and let’s them go to waste in the fridge, rely on frozen veggies that you can use at any time. typically, frozen veggies go for $2-3 a bag for multiple servings - you can’t beat that!
You don’t need expensive supplements
Especially with social media today, it’s easy to get influenced into buying expensive supplements. No need to buy the mega pack of all the random supplements for $500. When it comes to supplements, all you really need at the beginning is maybe some protein powder and pre-workout if you’d like!
Gym memberships cost less per month than your cost of one night of eating out
Most gym memberships cost $10-25 per month with the exception of specialty gyms that offer additional services! If you’re working out from a home, you can get some equipment like resistance bands and a few dumbbells for under $50 that will last forever. Think about skipping going out to grab dinner and eating at home for one night instead and you’ve already paid for your gym membership for the whole month!
