Stuck in the cycle of fad dieting? Read this.

Maybe you were put on weight watchers as a young adult.

Maybe you saw a picture on a magazine with a caption “Lose 10lbs in 10 days!”

Maybe a comment was made to you about your body by others at a young age.

Whatever it was that started this seemingly never-ending diet cycle for you, know that you are not alone and you do not have to stay stuck trying fad diet after fad diet, hoping that this one will finally stick.

YOU are not the problem here, diet culture is. We grow up thinking that we need to eat less and move more. We are taught that our bodies are not good enough or ideal unless you are lean and toned, but not too muscular where you look like a bodybuilder. We are conflicted with nutrition information telling us to eat low fat or eat only fat and no carbs.

Let’s face it, the world of health and fitness is confusing and social media does nothing these days to help clear the confusion. If you are sick of trying everything under the sun and are ready to learn how to live a healthful (AND sustainable) lifestyle, keep reading!

What is the first thing you need to do in order to stop this fad diet cycle?

Accept the fact that fad diets and trends are never going to get you the body you want (at least in a sustainable way).

The moment you truly accept this is the moment you are actually ready to move on from dieting. If you are sitting there thinking oh maybe just one more time or when the newest Tiktok trend that comes out seems promising and you want to give it a go, that’s when you are giving into diet culture and you aren’t fully in belief that you don’t need these things to reach your goals! Something you can do to help recognize this is to take a moment to list out all the fad diets and trends that you have tried and reflect on what they did for you and your goals.

Once you’ve truly rejected diet culture and fully believe that you don’t need another diet to reach your goals, then you are in a place where you can start to focus on health-promoting behaviors (without the extremes).

Look for the areas of your health and fitness that you see the most room for improvement. And don’t forget about the simple lifestyle things like your stress management and sleep habits that honestly play a bigger role in your progress than any “superfood” or “detox” will.

Once you’ve identified which aspects of your health and fitness need the most love and support, choose ONE to focus on this month. There is no sense in setting 12 goals at once and trying to tackle everything. Remember that your health and fitness is a journey, not a 30-day fix. If you start small and build on these sustainable habits, you are going to get to your goals a lot faster than if you had tried to do it all at once.

If you are still needing that extra support and guidance, know that it’s okay to ask for help!! That’s what we are here for at Revolution Health & Fitness. Don’t stay stuck in the cycle, break free from it with the help of one of our coaches whose goal is for you to step out of this vicious cycle and step into your strongest most confident self, inside and out!
